  • Total Compensation Package: One of our most important responsibilities to our people is to create vehicles that allow them to build security and wealth alongside the income building opportunities:
    • Pay: To provide financial security in the early years of building your business, we have a generous training assistance pay plan for the first two years. Our 1st year Partners typically earn around $50,000 annually. The significant increase in income each year stems from the clientele building opportunity from your sales commission. As more and more of your business each year comes from established customers, you are able to increasingly work a referral-based business and comfortably grow your income to the lifestyle you desire and your assistance pay plan tapers off.
    • Stock: Tom James is a privately held, employee-owned company. Shares in Tom James are earned through sales and leadership performance. Our compound annual growth rate since the inception of the stock program has been 14.1%; our average dividend is 2-3% of stock value.
    • 401(k): Tom James has a competitive 401(k) offering featuring a 20% match on employee contributions up to 6% of their income.
    • Profit Sharing: Most years, our Board of Directors determines a share of profits to contribute back into our employees' retirement accounts on top of the 20% match we standardly make. Typically, the contribution amount is 3% or more of the employee's annual income, so an employee earning $100,000 would receive a $3,000 contribution to their retirement account on top of a 20% match on their individual contributions.
    • Upward Mobility & Growth: There are parallel opportunities many of our sales professionals enjoy in addition to their sales and leadership opportunities:
      • Recruiting: Individuals with a skill for identifying and attracting top talent to Tom James can earn the opportunity to maintain campus recruiting relationships, partnerships with schools and universities, and engage in other recruiting activities. They receive additional pay and performance bonuses.
      • Training: Other individuals are extraordinary teachers and are particularly skilled at influencing, motivating and coaching Sales Professionals to increased levels of production. Our Sales Schools are led by top performing Partners with demonstrated skills in the areas they teach. These individuals have their own pay package for influencing and training our next generation of Sales Professionals.
      • Leadership: Entering the ranks of leadership in our company is one of the most significant transition points an individual can experience in their career. There are several aspects of our leadership opportunity you should understand:
        • Driven by success. The opportunity to hire is clear-cut and driven by sales. Once qualified, your progression on our leadership path is driven by your team’s success in growing sales, people and profits. Period. You control your leadership opportunity 100%.
        • Performance-based pay. Leadership isn’t a title at Tom James; it’s a responsibility. Your leadership pay plan reflects the additional hours of hard work, mentoring and helping others on your team become successful.
      • Personal Development: We support each other by sharing books, conducting inspirational and informational morning meetings, celebrating achievements and personal belief barriers and in general have an atmosphere of personal responsibility, accountability and gratitude. We invest heavily in leadership training, believing that our success hinges on the health and capabilities of our leaders.

We offer our people a roadmap that is very clear, and provide world class training on how to execute each phase of our sales process. From an activity standpoint, here is what it looks like:

Training

People are the heart of our business. We invest heavily in training and development opportunities, from a comprehensive, two-month initial onboarding training period to merit-based advanced training opportunities available every quarter.

Selling

Once a new partner is out of training and begins selling, the success habits are as follows:

  • Set 5-7 selling appointments daily (approx. 1 every 1.5 hours)
  • Continue identifying 15 quality prospects daily and adding to sales pipeline
  • Give excellent customer service
  • Ask for referrals at every opportunity
  • Work on 2-3 specific skills per week with leader or performance coach
  • Set goals and review them daily

As simple as it sounds, new partners who do these things with regularity find their way to success.
